NEW PROGRAMMING AND PROTOTYPING ADAPTER SUPPORT FOR ATMEL® DATAFLASH
AT45DB011B/AT45DB021B & AT45DB161B/ AT45DB321DC
New Adapters make it possible for users to program two Atmel CBGA Packaged
DataFlash® devices at the same time

SANTA CLARA, Calif, Sept. 15, 2004—Emulation Technology (ET), introduced
today two new adapters supporting the Atmel AT45DB011B/021B and
AT45DB161B/321DC DataFlash devices packaged in the Chip Scale Ball Grid
Array (CBGA) package. ET’s two new adapters provide hardware and design
engineers with the ability to program and prototype. In addition engineers
will save time by programming and/or prototyping two devices at the same
time in the same adapter.
Programming in Half the Time
These new adapters are used to convert a memory programmer DIP sockets to
Zero Insertion Force sockets that will accommodate a CBGA packaged device
for circuit programming, or that can house the CBGA in a prototype
application to help debug programmed code. The open-top ZIF socket allows
the engineer to quickly remove and replace the DataFlash memory after making programming code changes. Soldering and desoldering the chip for each
program change is not required. These new adapters are two of many
multi-application (program and prototype) adapters available from ET.
CBGA Programming/Prototyping Adapter Features and Benefits:
- Converts a DIP programmer socket to a CBGA Zero Insertion socket in
seconds.
- Each adapter is capable of programming two CBGA devices at the same time.
- Eliminates surface mounting and desoldering during the software development stage.
- Adapter assembly’s ZIF open-top socket allows users to quickly and easily
remove the DataFlash memory, reprogram and re-insert into the development
board with out soldering.
- Gold-plated test points provide a quick and reliable connection to the
programmer or PCB.
- Zero Insertion Sockets are also sold separately for in-house test boards
or custom reference designs.
- Small micro tip vacuum pens also available for easy chip handling.
New Atmel Data Flash Packaging
AT45DB011B/021B/ 161B/321DC are all serial interface Flash memory devices
well suited for voice, image, program code and other data-storage dependant
applications. AT45DB011B/ 021B have 1.0mm ball pitch, 9 balls, an array
size of 3 x 3, and package body size of 5 x 5 x 1.2 mm. AT45DB161B/321DC are
1.0mm ball pitch devices with 24 balls, an array size of 5 x 5mm and 6 x 8 x 1.4 mm body.
